Duniway Middle School is located in McMinnville,
Oregon. McMinnville is in the beautiful Willamette Valley in the heart of “wine
country.” It is a two hour drive from spectacular Mt. Hood and the Columbia
River Gorge. It is a one hour drive from the Oregon Coast, beautiful downtown
Portland and our state capital, Salem.
Duniway Middle School is one
of two middle schools that prepare students to become a McMinnville High School Grizzly. Duniway is committed to creating a caring community of students, educators, support staff, and parents. Our efforts to nurture a positive atmosphere are guided by the needs of middle school students. This
includes a deep commitment to providing a balanced program of academics, special
interest opportunities, advisory, and extra-curricular activities to meet the
unique social, emotional, and cognitive needs of today’s adolescent.
The student population is currently at
748; 263 sixth graders, 243 seventh graders, and 261 eighth graders. There are 45 teachers and 30 classified employees. The administration consists of our
Principal, Cathy Carnahan, and Vice Principal, Lysha Wasser. There are two counselors, Emily Kerrigan,
works with 6th grade students and 7th grade students A thru K,
and Maria Drennen, works with 8th grade students and 7th grade students L thru Z, and four secretaries, Rosemary
Rice, Judy Peterson, Jerri Fredricks, and Sylvia Rivera.
The school was built in 1993. A new
teaching wing, along with a third gym and a music room was completed in the
Spring of 1999. Duniway Middle School and the McMinnville
School District are building for the future.
